Questions People Ask

Can you help me with my problem?

I have expertise working with: parenting issues for both younger and adult children: divorce and blended family issues; traditional and non-traditional family systems; anxiety; depression; sexual identity and orientation questions; and recovery from assault or abuse. I do not see people who have been court-ordered into counseling.

What should I expect from counseling with you?

I draw from a diverse background of experience and training, so I can tailor therapy to each client, based on his or her needs. My style is straight-forward, and fairly pragmatic, with a strong balance between humor and compassion. If something is not working, then we try something else. There are many possibilities and I like the creative process of figuring out what works for each of my clients.

What do I need for my first session?

Please download my intake forms and fill them out in advance, bringing them with you to our first session. This will allow us to focus on what you need, rather than administrative tasks. You may also come early and fill the forms out in the waiting room. Otherwise, you just need to show up with an idea of why you want counseling. I'll help you figure out where we go from there.

What about non-traditional families?

I have worked with families who are based in very traditional values and enjoy that work very much. But I also work with families who have non-traditional elements, include single parents, lesbian and gay parents or couples, or families of choice, where friends are sharing parenting within the home. These families have different issues that I understand and can effectively address in a therapeutic setting.

Where are you located?

I currently offer all sessions via Telehealth, using Zoom for Health.

How much does counseling cost?

The first session (or assessment) is $150; my standard rate for subsequent meetings is $120 per 55-minute session, payable at each session. I accept cash, checks, Visa or MasterCard as forms of payment. I also charge on a pro-rated, hourly basis for phone calls longer than 10 minutes, or for any written reports you may request.

Do you take my insurance?

I will bill insurance plans for which I am a preferred provider, and you will then be responsible for paying your deductible and any co-pays as required by your plan, at each session. Please contact your insurance company to determine if I am a preferred provider on your plan. If I am not a preferred provider on your plan, then you will need to pay me at the end of each session, and a monthly account statement will be sent to your home. You may use this statement to seek reimbursement from your insurance company.

Can I use my health care flexible spending account?

Yes. Monthly statements are mailed to my clients around the 10th of each month. You may use this statement to seek reimbursement from your healthcare flexible spending account. If you have a Visa or Mastercard connected to your HSA, you may use that to pay your co-pays or co-insurance at each session.
